Jets trying to avoid repeating Giants Saquon Barkley mistake with Breece Hall

The New York Jets are going to have a very interesting offseason. They've already made one move, reportedly trading Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans for defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat.

But, there's another big question at hand for the Jets: What will the Jets do with Breece Hall? The star running back is set to be a free agent, but the Jets don't want to let him walk. There are plenty of reasons why, but an underrated one is thanks to the New York Giants.

As Tony Pauline of Essentiallysports.com noted, the Jets are trying to avoid repeating the same mistake the Giants made when their star running back Saquon Barkley was set to be a free agent.

"The Jets don't want to make the same mistake the New York Giants made with Saquon Barkley two years ago," Pauline writes.

Instead of franchise tagging, extending, or trading him, the Giants let Barkley hit the open market, where he signed with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles won the Super Bowl his first year with their new team.

While neither the Buffalo Bills nor the New England Patriots need a running back as the Eagles did, the Jets cannot let Hall walk this offseason.

The indications so far have been that the Jets want to keep Hall in New York. Whether it's a franchise or transition tag, or an extension, Hall is not someone the Jets want to lose.

He's a great dual-threat running back and is coming off a strong 1,065 rushing-yard season for the Jets. Despite the poor offensive environment, Hall still produced.

If the Jets can find a franchise quarterback, Hall, along with Garrett Wilson, could help the Jets' offense turn a corner into being a far better unit than it is now.

But before the Jets can get excited about such a future, they need to make sure they don't repeat the Giants' mistake with Barkley. Hall has to stay in New York, no matter what the Jets have to do to make sure that happens this offseason.
