Steelers GM Omar Khan is widely expected to add a new QB in the 2026 offseason.

It is no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers have played like they are from the city of Pittsburgh in the past. At least, that was the case under former head coach Mike Tomlin. They played a gritty, tough style of football, particularly on offense, which more often than not got the job done in a lot of games. But after failing to post a top-10 total offense for the seventh consecutive season, Tomlin decided todepart from Pittsburgh, and the franchise hired an offensive-minded head coach in former Super Bowl championMike McCarthy.

With all eyes on how they will transform the offensive play, the Steelers currently hold five upcoming draft picks within the top 100. Furthermore, they are expected to have nearly $45 million in cap space, according toOver the Cap. This means that there will be plenty of opportunities for this team to turn things around on offense from both a production and personnel standpoint this offseason.

Pittsburgh Steelers Seen as Perfect Fit for Free-Agent Wide Receiver Rashid Shaheed

With NFL free agency officially beginning on March 11th, look for the Steelers to be aggressive in how they shape the team. While their plans could partially be on hold as they wait for a decision on whether or not future Hall of Fame quarterbackAaron Rodgers will be back with the team in 2026, expect McCarthy and Co. to go all in on re-shaping the offense.

Despite winning the division last season, the Steelers did not have a 1,000-yard receiver and were 21st in passing offense. They did not have enough players who could stretch the field. However, that could change now that a certain All-Pro return man and dangerous gadget player is about to hit the open market. That player is none other than Seahawks wide receiverRashid Shaheed.

According to Bleacher Report’sAlex Ballentine, Shaheed is seen as a perfect free-agent fit for Pittsburgh. Here is what Ballentine had to say regarding how Shaheed would mesh with McCarthy’s offense:

“Right now, the offense is still built around Arthur Smith’s multiple tight end looks. Signing a speedster like Rashid Shaheed immediately forms the offense closer to what Mike McCarthy likes to work with.”

A Shahid Signing Would Immediately Bolster the Entire Steelers Franchise

If Pittsburgh were able to land a talented playmaker such as Shaheed, the positive effects could be massive. Not only has Shahid proven in the early stages of his career that he can be an electric return man, but he has also proven that he can stretch the field when lining up as a receiver. In each of his first four seasons, the Super Bowl champion has averaged over 11.0 yards per touch.

Things would certainly take shape if Rodgers were also able to return in this scenario. If that were the case, Steelers fans would be looking at an offense that includes one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, who would be reuniting with the coach that helped him win a Super Bowl and multiple MVPs, dynamic wide receivers inDK Metcalf and Shaheed, as well as a multi-faceted tight end room.

Regardless, the Steelers have a great chance to build on what they have with the amount of draft picks and cap space that they possess. Time can only tell which players they decide to put their faith in to lead them into the 2026 season and beyond.
