Report: Amazon Could Move On From Kirk Herbstreit

Kirk Herbstreit has been calling NFL games for Amazon Prime since the 2022 season. He and Al Michaels make up the "Thursday Night Football" team.

However, Herbstreit's contract with Amazon Prime is up after the 2026 season and, according to a report from The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, the streaming giant could look to replace the former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback.

Herbstreit, 56, continues to cover college football for ESPN and "College GameDay." He's enjoyed his time covering the NFL, but with his contract up, Amazon is reportedly looking at potentially moving on from Herbstreit and eyeing Travis Kelce or Sean McVay.

"If Prime Video moves on from Herbstreit, it could look at the well-respected Greg Olsen of Fox and Watt, but the wild cards are Kelce and McVay. McVay just signed a new coaching deal with the Rams, which lessens - but doesn't eliminate - the chance he could exit for the booth after the 2026 season. Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, would be in demand whenever his playing career ends, with ESPN already eying him," Marchand reported.

Herbstreit, who loves to stay busy during football season, has been open about his future with the networks.

"I'm loving the NFL. I would never want to leave that job on Thursday, and I love 'GameDay,'" Herbstreit told The Athletic.

"I can't imagine not sitting in that seat. It's a dream to have all three of these. I hope to be able to sign an extension at some point with both Amazon and ESPN."

Herbstreit initially wasn't sure if he could do all three jobs - Amazon Prime, College GameDay and ABC's Saturday night game - when he started. He credits Pat McAfee with keeping him energetic.

"I had to look myself in the mirror and be like, can I do all three (jobs)? Herbstreit said. "Pat coming on the show, it's been a game-changer for me and for the show. He brings a certain level of intensity and energy. Him and I have a great relationship."

But it doesn't sound like it's a guarantee that Herbstreit will be back in 2027.

Who would you want to see Amazon Prime replacing him with?
