'On my mind':£100m Chelsea target fails to rule out summer exit

Chelsea have long been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a move that could cost £100m, and now he has spoken about his future.

While priorities for Chelsea this summer are likely to be a new centre-back and a goalkeeper, more depth in the middle of the park is also a necessity. Moises Caicedo is one of the first names on the team sheet.

But behind him, there is little cover. Andrey Santos has been starting alongside the Ecuadorian, with Enzo Fernandez pushed further up. Reece James can play in midfield but is preferred on the right of defence.

So, depth in the middle of the park is a necessity and England star Anderson has been strongly linked with Chelsea as well as some of England’s biggest clubs. Now, Anderson has been discussing his future.

Elliot Anderson keeps door ajar ahead of summer exit

Anderson has easily been one of Forest’s best players over the last couple of seasons, after swapping Newcastle for the City Ground. But Forest are in danger of relegation from the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of Forest’s second leg against Fenerbahce in the Europa League, Anderson was asked about his future and whether he could leave Forest. Anderson failed to rule out a potential departure.

“I’m just focusing on my football at the moment and performing and trying to give everything to Nottingham Forest. That’s all that’s on my mind. It’s been a big two years [at Forest],” Anderson said.

“I think I’ve done really well, to be honest, in the time I’ve been here. I’ve matured on and off the pitch. It’s thanks to the club for giving me that platform to go out there and play and let me do my stuff.”

Chelsea have been informed that they would have to spend £100m to land Anderson come the summer. Relegation, obviously, would see that price tag plummet, but as things stand, he will cost nine figures.

It has been reported that Chelsea are already in talks with Anderson’s agents. Forest boss Vitor Pereira was also asked about Anderson’s future, as well as Morgan Gibbs-White, but insists they remain focused.

“I’m not hearing this,” Pereira said, as quoted by the Nottingham Post. “Every day is work. I feel they are very committed to our target, the most important thing. “He [Gibbs-White] is a top player, a captain.

“A top player with spirit. Elliot is the same – a top player with spirit. That’s why I accepted the job, because I have very good players. We can create a strong team together,” Pereira added in his press conference.

Anderson will be in action on Thursday evening, giving Chelsea fans the chance to watch the midfielder in European action. Plenty of other midfielders have been linked with Chelsea, like Liverpool’s Curtis Jones.
