Liverpool and Man United unlikely to meet star’s £50 million valuation

Liverpool will hope to take a step towards Champions League qualification when they host West Ham United on Saturday.

The Reds currently sit sixth in the Premier League table but are just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United in the race to finish in the top four.

Last time out, Arne Slot’s side defeated struggling Nottingham Forest 1-0, courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister’s late winner.

Ahead of the visit of the Hammers, it has emerged that Liverpool have been deterred from making an offer to sign one of their transfer targets.

According to Football Insider, both Liverpool and Manchester United are unlikely to meet Wolves’ £50 million price tag for in-demand midfielder, Mateus Mane.

The report claims that the two sides are both interested in the 18-year-old, who has been one of few impressive performers for Wolves this term.

Mane joined the Midlands club’s youth setup from Rochdale just under two years ago, and has broken properly into the first team at Molineux in recent months.

In total the attacking midfielder has now made 20 appearances for Wolves across all competitions, scoring twice and providing the same number of assists.

While Wolves are understandably reluctant to lose the player, their impending relegation – which appears almost certain – may make it more difficult to keep hold of Mane beyond this summer.

The club have therefore put a price tag of £50 million on the Englishman, the report says, however neither Liverpool nor Manchester United are willing to pay that amount to sign him.

Mane’s contract with Wolves is set to expire at the end of the 2028/29 campaign, and those in charge of the club – including manager Rob Edwards – will be hoping that he remains part of their squad beyond the end of the current season.
