Liverpool could see one or two departures in the summer with Real Madrid sniffing about again.
Liverpool kept a core of starting players throughout Jurgen Klopp’s time in charge and would rotate the others around them.
Some would be sold for a profit, others would be sold after failing to make an impact and last summer heralded a new beginning for the club under Arne Slot. After seeing only Federico Chiesa arrive in his first summer transfer window, there was huge upheaval in his second which means that this year should be quieter, unless there are departures.
Is Alexis Mac Allister’s time at Liverpool coming to an end?
Xabi Alonso is a fan of the 27-year old, however, he is no longer in charge of Los Blancos. This hasn’t stopped the speculation though and a respected Liverpool journalist reckons that Mac Allister could well be about to leave Anfield. Of the midfielders in Arne Slot’s squad, his position is the weakest if an out-and-out no.6 was signed to allow Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai to play with more attacking freedom.
When Real Madrid might return for Mac Allister
According to the Liverpool Echo‘s Ian Doyle, the Merseyside reporter has a “hunch” that Mac Allister could leave for the Bernabeu when responding to a fan via a Q and A session: “I’ve long had a hunch that Mac Allister will leave at the end of the season, with Real Madrid his next destination,” he wrote.
“However, the player’s form this campaign has been less than anyone would have wanted and has seen such talk largely dissipate. But this is a World Cup year. And if Mac Allister has a good one with Argentina, there’s every chance Real will be sniffing around him and, with two years left on his contract, if a new deal isn’t agreed then Liverpool would have a decision to make should a big-money offer come in.
“I would rather Mac Allister didn’t leave, though. At his best he is a fantastic player and in the long-term could link very well with Florian Wirtz. He’d be a difficult one to replace.” Liverpool shouldn’t sell Mac Allister without having a no.6 signed first, however, as seen before, once Real Madrid pick up the phone, some players find it hard not to have their heads turned.
