There is expected to be significant speculation over the futures of several Tottenhamplayers this summer. A major overhaul could be on the cards, with Spurs following up last season’s 17th-place Premier League finish with another disappointing campaign.
The Lilywhites currently sit 16th and are firmly in a relegation battle with 11 games remaining. Underperforming players may be put up for sale as the club reshape the squad for a new manager, while high-profile names could also weigh up their futures.
Centre-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are among those likely to attract interest. Romero has previously been linked with both Madrid clubs, while Van de Ven has admirers at Liverpool, whom he supported as a child.
Liverpool are seeking a long-term partner for Virgil van Dijk, with Ibrahima Konate set to leave when his contract expires this summer. Manchester United have now also been linked with a potential move for Van de Ven, despite plans to prioritise midfield reinforcements amid the expected departure of Casemiro.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are monitoring the Dutch defender as they search for a left-sided centre-back, with veteran duo David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger potentially moving on. Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is also admired, but van de Ven’s pace and leadership make him a leading target.
The 24-year-old has made 83 appearances since joining from VfL Wolfsburg for an initial £34.5m in August 2023, though his third season could prove to be his last in north London.
Van de Ven has been one of the few positives for Tottenham Hotspur this campaign, captaining the side at times and scoring four goals in 25 Premier League appearances.
According to Sky Sports, “Micky van de Ven is said to be a ‘long way off’ signing a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur and it is understood that concrete talks over a new deal have not taken place.” Van de Ven’s contract expires in 2029.
