Eagles' Timeline For Potential AJ Brown Trade Revealed

The Philadelphia Eagles‘ offense regressed under Kevin Patullo’s command. The defending Super Bowl champions averaged just 194.3 passing yards and 22.3 points per game, good for 23rd and 19th in the league, respectively.

Patullo is out as offensive coordinator, but that might not be enough to appease AJ Brown. The star wide receiver was vocal about his frustration with the organization, and even though the Eagles held onto him past the trade deadline, their relationship may have reached a breaking point.

Considering that, NFL insider Peter Schrager reported that Eagles GM Howie Roseman has seemingly changed his stance on Brown. For the first time since he arrived in the City of Brotherly Love, he could be available for a trade.

Eagles Might Finally Be Open To Trading AJ Brown

“There is a difference in tone from the trade deadline, when Howie Roseman said to everybody, absolutely, off the table, we’re not trading A.J. Brown, to here in Indy, where it seems like he’s almost saying, ‘Well, I’ll never just say no to listening to offers,'” Scrhager said on ESPN. “Roseman, this time of year, is always listening. That’s his mantra.”

Nevertheless, the Eagles will have to wait a little longer before making any move. The Eagles have $18 million in available cap space, but trading Brown before June 1 would come with a massive dead cap hit:

“Truth of the matter is, it is cost-prohibitive for [the Eagles] to trade Brown before June 1,” Schrager added. “That’s a $40M dead-cap hit. So, there are financial barriers here for the A.J. Brown trade.”

Trading Brown after June 1 would actually save the Eagles $7 million, according to Over The Cap.

He finished the season with 78 receptions on 121 targets for 1,003 and seven touchdowns, averaging 66.9 yards per game. Those would be career numbers for most wide receivers, but Brown is capable of much more and clearly not satisfied with his insufficient involvement in the passing game.

That said, he has burned bridges with his previous team as well, so it’ll be interesting to see who’s willing to give up valuable draft assets to acquire his services.
