Source: Penn State assistant quarterbacks coach Trace McSorley leaving for NFL

A Penn State letterwinner is departing the staff and heading to the NFL.

Assistant quarterbacks coach Trace McSorley is taking a job with the Buffalo Bills, a source told the Centre Daily Times. Lions247’s Daniel Gallen first reported the news.

McSorley joined the coaching staff in the 2025 offseason after retiring from the NFL. The former quarterback spent 2019-2024 on various rosters and practice squads in the NFL after going to the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Prior to that he was a quarterback with the Nittany Lions from 2014-2018, starting for three seasons and leading the program to its only Big Ten title of the James Franklin era in 2016.

His departure is the second in February after wide receivers coach Noah Pauley also left for the NFL, taking a wide receivers coach job with the Green Bay Packers.
