Vikings' J.J. McCarthy biggest loser of Anthony Richardson news

The Minnesota Vikings and their quarterback situation with J.J. McCarthy are going to be an interesting watch.

With the Vikings reportedly not fully sold on the idea of McCarthy, now comes the news that Anthony Richardson, from the Indianapolis Colts, has been told he can seek a trade away from the franchise.

And here is where it gets interesting, and potentially not good for McCarthy.

CBS Sports' Cameron Wolfe has named the Vikings as a team that could be interested in Richardson.

"One team to keep an eye on, according to Wolfe, is the Minnesota Vikings, who are trying to fill out their QB room alongside J.J. McCarthy and have interest in Richardson," NFL.com's Kevin Patra wrote.

McCarthy set for QB battle?

Of course, that would only be true if the Vikings traded for Richardson.

But the fact that the franchise is interested should be a little red flashing light going off for McCarthy.

As he enters his second season as the starter in 2026 (rookie season gone due to injury), he might be fighting for the starting role if Richardson is acquired.

With many opinions that the Vikings made the wrong decision moving off from Sam Darnold, and now, they could be wrong on McCarthy, too.

If Richardson comes to the Vikings, then it will make for a serious QB battle this offseason.
