The identity of the fifth bidder remains a mystery. The Athletic reports that each of the bids is “strong.”

Brees, who played for the San Diego Chargers from 2001-05 before finishing his 20-year career with the New Orleans Saints, is involved with marketing the athleisure brand Vuori. Kudla, its founder, went to the University of San Diego.

The Seidler family announced in November it was exploring a sale of the Padres.
