ESPN offers harsh Shedeur Sanders' Browns reality in franchise's QB search

There hasn't been a bigger mess in the NFL of late than the Cleveland Browns' quarterback position, and it doesn't look like that will change in 2026.

With Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson, the quarterbacks for Todd Monken, none inspire confidence heading into the new season. As such, the Browns could look for another option.

ESPN's Seth Walder, in his predictions for the 2026 starting quarterbacks, has named Kyler Murray as a player the Browns should be looking into.

But he also delivered a hammer blow to Sanders in the process.

"Some might clamor to give Shedeur Sanders more development time, but I think that would be a mistake," Walder wrote. "A fifth-round pick whose 18.9 QBR would have been by far the worst in the league had he played enough to qualify ought to be considered the longest of shots, so the Browns should be pursuing other quarterback options."

Does Sanders have legitimate QB1 shot?

In my mind, Sanders, after the end of his rookie season, deserves to at least get first crack at the starting role.

After all, he did give the Browns' offense something no one else did -- hope.

Yes, the numbers weren't good, but we did see flashes, so Sanders should at least get the chance to win the job.

But if someone like Murray is available, do the Browns look in his direction? Or go with the winner of a Sanders, Gabriel, and Watson battle?

That is what the front office must decide.
