Chargers Players Give Jim Harbaugh One of Worst Grades in NFL Survey

Jim Harbaugh of the Los Angeles Chargers is one of the most heralded head coaches in the entire NFL.

Although he hasn’t won a Super Bowl, he led the San Francisco 49ers to the title game a little over a decade ago and also took the Michigan Wolverines to the top of the College Football Playoff.

But on Thursday, his players might not agree with that assessment.

Per Kalyn Kahler of ESPN, her company obtained the annual NFL Players Association’s 2026 report cards, which included the thoughts of active pros on their travel, home stadiums, and even their coaches.

“This year’s report cards are based on responses from 1,759 players,” she wrote. “All players who were on a 2025 roster at the time of the survey were eligible to participate, and it was conducted from Nov. 2 to Dec. 11.”

While the Chargers players loved Jesse Minter, their defensive coordinator, who is now the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, giving him an A+, the same couldn’t be said about Harbaugh.

The Chargers gave Harbaugh a grade of C+.

While on the surface that might not seem so bad, only four coaches in the entire NFL received lower than a “B” from their players.

The other three teams were the Cleveland Browns (C-), New York Giants (C), and Las Vegas Raiders (C+).

What do the trio all have in common?

They hired new head coaches in the offseason.

Even coaches who were fired at the end of the season received higher grades from their players than Harbaugh did with the Chargers.

Raheem Morris was let go by the Atlanta Falcons, and his team gave him a B+. Sean McDermott got an A- and was still fired this offseason from the Buffalo Bills. Mike McDaniel, who was fired by the Miami Dolphins and is the new Chargers offensive coordinator, got a higher grade.

While it doesn’t seem like Harbaugh is on the hot seat any time soon, making back-to-back postseason appearances with the Chargers, the survey results open up more questions than answers.
