Colts QB and former first-round pick Anthony Richardson could be a trade option for the Browns.

The Minnesota Vikings look to be exploring all options in the QB market. With the recent news that the Indianapolis Colts are reportedly allowing Anthony Richardson to seek a trade, it’s no surprise that his name is now in the speculation mill for the Vikings.

Stephen Holder of ESPN reported on Feb. 26 that the Colts have given Richardson permission to seek a trade, per his agent. While the Vikings could trade for a player whose stock is low, one person is urging Minnesota not to do that.

On the Feb. 26 edition of “The Jim Rome Show,” Jim Rome didn’t hold back on his thoughts regarding the Vikings potentially being a landing spot for Richardson.

“They’re in this position because they already have somebody like this,” Rome said. “But before they or anybody else starts to try to convince themselves that Anthony Richardson is somehow the answer for a nine-win team looking to get back to their 14 wins from two years ago, can we just take a look back and remember what happened last year in Indy? That team started 7-1. AR lost that job out of camp to Daniel Jones.

“Then, when Jones got hurt, and they really needed Anthony Richardson to come save their season, remember, they started 7-1. Where was AR? Unavailable. And why was he unavailable? Because he broke his own face with his own resistance band, which, of course, forced themto literally pull Philip Rivers off the couch.”

Jim Rome Continues Firey Tirade on Anthony Richardson

Rome didn’t stop there when explaining that Richardson going to the Vikings wouldn’t make any sense for a team trying to win now. He spotlighted the Colts QB’s injury history and one concerning stat, his completion percentage.

“This dude’s availability may, in fact, be his worst ability,” Rome added. “He also has a career completion percentage of 50 percent. So accuracy is not also one of his better abilities and, in fact, might be his worst ability. And despite being in the league for three full seasons, hestill hasonly started 15 games. And this is for a really high draft pick.

“So once again, I know that this dude needs QB rehab. I know he needs the Vikings. I, just for the life of me, have no idea why they think that they would need him… The Vikings thinkthey’re built to win right freaking now. They need a vet to come in and win right freaking now. A vet like, I don’t know, Aaron Rodgers, Kirk Cousins? What are we doing here?”

Vikings HC Thinks Highly of Anthony Richardson

Moreover, the Vikings are being speculated as a destination for Richardson because head coach Kevin O’Connell has shown an affinity for the player in the past.

“Hey, do me a favor and remember something,”O’Connell said. “You’re a bad dude. And you’re gonna play a long time in this league. Alright? Go to work every day, good things will happen for you. I still believe in you.”

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see whether this speculation becomes reality this offseason.
