The Washington Commanders have put the proverbial axe to their roster this offseason, cutting another multiyear starter before March 1 as the new league year looms.

Ian Rapoport reported the team’s dismissal of starting offensive lineman Tyler Biadasz on Thursday, February 26.

“The Commanders are releasing starting center Tyler Biadasz, source said,” Rapoport wrote on X. “Another center available in free agency. The 28-year-old has started 31 games over two seasons.”

Biadasz — who began his career with the Dallas Cowboys and played his first four NFL years there, as well as his sole Pro Bowl campaign in 2022 — had one season remaining on his $29.25 million deal. Washington saved just $2.9 million in salary cap space via the cut, while incurring an $8.1 million dead money hit in 2026.

The Commanders will also lose $5.4 million and $2.7 million against the cap in 2027 and 2028, respectively, on void years tied to Biadasz’s deal. Washington is currently has $73.65 million in cap space for the 2026 season.

Pro Football Focus ranked Biadasz as the 11th-best center out of 40 players who saw enough snaps to qualify at the position during the 2025 season.

Commanders Cut Ties With Cornerback Marshon Lattimore Earlier This Month

The Commanders are reshuffling the deck this offseason, both in terms of personnel and the coaching staff, after a disappointing 5-12 record in Dan Quinn’s second year as the head coach. He led Washington to a 12-5 regular season mark and an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2024.

Another notable player the team announced plans to dismiss in February is four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

“The Commanders will release Marshon Lattimore ahead of the new league year, which clears an additional $18.5 million in cap space,” Evan Sidery reported on February 19. “Washington traded three 2025 draft picks to the [New Orleans] Saints last year for Lattimore.”

Lattimore tallied seven passes defensed, one interception, one tackle for loss and one recovered fumble across nine games played for the Commanders in 2025.

His release made more sense than Biadasz’s given the amount of money it saved Washington, as well as Lattimore’s decline in play from one of the game’s best defensive backs early in his career. PFF ranked Lattimore the 96th-best cornerback out of 114 qualifying players at the position last season.

Quinn and company have a ton of money to turn what was the oldest team in the NFL heading into 2025 back into a contender in the NFC during the upcoming campaign.

And it won’t just be a number of new players on the field, but different strategies on offense and defense coming from different coordinators.

Quinn wasted little time before firing former defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury following the end of the season in January.

Daronte Jones has since come on as the new DC, joining the team after several years as a defensive coach with the Minnesota Vikings. Quinn also promoted former professional quarterback David Blough from the assistant quarterbacks coach to the role of offensive coordinator.
