Arsenal are beating Liverpool, Manchester United for one of the Premier League’s best forwards

Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League right now, but that doesn’t mean they are going to be complacent in the summer transfer window. They need one more star forward to complete their set, and they are in the driver’s seat to sign Newcastle United left winger and center forward option Anthony Gordon.

One of the leading goal-scorers in the Champions League this season, the pacy Gordon has fallen off the radar a bit, but the Magpies star is still unmistakably one of the most athletic and in-demand forwards on the transfer market in the English top flight.

According to a report from The Sun’s Charlie Wyett, Arsenal are leading both Manchester United and Liverpool in the battle to ink Gordon, who has been closely linked to all three Big Six clubs.

Arsenal have also been linked closely with his teammate Sandro Tonali in midfield, and both the Gunners and Red Devils are going to do hard battles for these two young Premier League stars this summer.

But since Arsenal already have Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice together in the middle of the park, a goal-scoring left winger with the ability to be an all-around center forward like Gordon is a bigger priority, especially with Gabriel Martinelli still a bit inconsistent and Gabriel Jesus likely leaving as a Viktor Gyokeres backup at striker.

Liverpool do need a left winger, too, as Cody Gakpo has been woeful and does not have the pace to burn out wide, which has made the Reds miss Luis Diaz even more; Diaz is tearing it up for Bayern Munich this season.

Manchester United need a new forward the least. Their front three of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and Bryan Mbeumo is pretty set, and if they do want an out-and-out left winger to compete with Patrick Dorgu and Cunha, Yan Diomande seems like their bigger priority.
