Chelsea may already be ready to quit on one of their big recent investments.

Chelsea could be set to call it quits on another big investment this summer as Liam Rosenior prepares to have his say on the makeup of his squad. Rosenior is yet to have a summer window in charge, and it will be interesting to see what decisions he makes on the players who were signed under the previous regime.

Though, Enzo Maresca did not appear to have much of a say on the club’s recruitment during his time at the club, and it’s not clear whether Rosenior will have more authority than his predecessor.

At a minimum, though, Rosenior will be able to let the higherups know who he thinks meets and doesn’t meet the standards Chelsea have. According to a fresh report, Chelsea are willing to quit on one recent investment due to poor form.

Liam Delap was signed on a £30million deal from Ipswich Town last season, signed to replace Nicolas Jackson, who was loaned out to Bayern Munich after effectively being axed despite showing some good progress in his first couple of years with the club.

Delap is only 23 years of age, but he has only scored twice across all competitions, and there are big concerns over whether he has what it takes to become a starter at Stamford Bridge, with Joao Pedro appearing to have the starting job locked down currently.

This summer, Chelsea will welcome Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg on a pre-arranged deal, and Rosenior may yet have a different take on Jackson when he returns from Bayern Munich.

Delap decision could be made

A big decision or two will need to be made at the top end of the pitch, and according to Football Insider’s Mick Brown, Delap could be one player who is allowed to go elsewhere.

Brown said: “I think Chelsea will be open to letting Delap leave,” Brown told Football Insider. “He hasn’t impressed as much as they hoped he might when they signed him from Ipswich, and I was surprised he went there in the first place, to be honest.

“I watched Chelsea against Hull, my old club, in the FA Cup and was disappointed with Delap. Normally when you watch him, you know roughly what you’re going to get. He’s aggressive, competitive, likes to battle for the ball and bully defenders.

“But his performance didn’t look like one of a young, hungry, aggressive striker looking to prove himself and cement his place in the team. He was wasteful with his opportunities in front of goal, and it was left again to Pedro Neto to do the business in that department.

“For a team like Chelsea, who are going to have ambitions of winning silverware, I think you need a striker who is going to be a regular source of goals. Delap hasn’t done anything yet to show me that’s who he is going to be, so I’m sure they’ll be looking at other options and that might mean they let him go if a big offer comes in.”
