Arsenal are right there with Manchester United and Juventus as three elite clubs in European football dreaming of stealing away Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, and it sounds like the Gunners have a real chance at making a move for him.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, via DailyAFC, “One thing that I can guarantee is that Arsenal will eventually work on midfielders in the summer. I think there is a strong possibility to see Sandro Tonali moving in the summer, so let’s see with Arsenal, but it’s not only Arsenal.”
So far, there is no indication that Tonali wants to leave Newcastle, but if he were to leave, it has become very clear that clubs like Juve in Serie A are going to be out of the race since Tonali values staying in the high competitiveness of the Premier League.
The fact that Romano is stating that Tonali has a strong chance of moving this summer is great news for Arsenal fans, because the biggest road block to him joining the North London giants may not be the competition, but rather his own willingness to leave St. James’s Park.
There is no team more competitive in the Premier League right now than Arsenal. They were Champions League semifinalists last season and have been the best team in the league this season.
Although Arsenal do need need a midfielder, per se, with Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice starring together, their depth options behind them are on the older side, and none of their players in the squad have the athletic and creative profile of the special Tonali.
