Giants’ Leaked Nflpa Report Card Speaks Volumes About Joe Schoen

General manager Joe Schoen of the New York Giants speaks to the media during the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

Despite the best efforts of the NFL to put a stop to the public release of the NFLPA’s report cards, ESPN’s Kalyn Kahler was able to get her hands on them, and it doesn’t reflect well on the New York Giants.

ESPN’s Brooke Pryor revealed on February 13 that the NFL and its owners won a grievance against the NFLPA regarding the reports, banning them from being published by the Players Association.

“An arbitrator found that the report cards violated the collective bargaining agreement by ‘disparaging NFL clubs and individuals,'” wrote Pryor.

But that didn’t stop the players from grading their teams’ executives, coaches, and facilities, and the information has been brought to light thanks to Kahler’s reporting.

Joe Schoen Catches the Brunt of Giants Report Card

The New York Giants weren’t graded too kindly by their players in the NFLPA report card. Their overall rank was 25th in the entire league.

Their lowest grade was “Home Game Field.” MetLife Stadium is notorious amongst players for being the worst turf in the NFL. It received an “F-” grade.

That was to be expected, though. Arguably, the most interesting grade amongst the bunch was the one given to general manager Joe Schoen.

Schoen received a “D+” grade as Giants GM, the worst mark given to any lead decision maker across the league.

It’s not 100% known what exactly goes into the grading system, especially when it comes to the general manager.

What are players looking for from the front office? Transparency? A relationship built on trust? Timely contract conversations and smooth negotiations?

Regardless, whatever the players are looking for from Schoen, they’re clearly not getting it, and it reflects poorly on him.

Maybe with John Harbaugh in the picture and less responsibility on Schoen’s shoulders, the grade will improve in 2027.

Giants Coaching Staff Gets Poor Marks

Schoen had one of the worst grades outside MetLife Stadium among the New York Giants players, but last year’s coaching staff also caught some flak.

Giants head coach received a “C” grade, which one can assume points to a subpar season from former Coach of the Year Brian Daboll before he was ultimately fired in early November.

Mike Kafka received a “C+” grade as offensive coordinator, while defensive coordinator Shane Bowen, who was also fired midseason, tied Schoen for the worst grade amongst Giants panelists with a “D+”.

Special teams coach Michael Ghobrial earned himself a “B+” thanks to his efforts leading New York’s punting and kicking units, despite the revolving door at kicker in 2025.

Other Giants NFLPA Report Card Grades

The rest of the New York Giants’ grades were solid, with some areas highlighted as strengths of the organization, including Nutritionist/Dietician (A-), Training Staff (B+), Strength Coaches (B+), and Team Ownership (B).

Where they failed to provide quality was the team’s locker room, which earned a “D” grade.

That was another area that was to be expected, and the Giants were already taking steps to remedy that before the NFLPA report cards came out.

The New York Post’s Paul Schwartz reported on January 19 that the Giants would be making massive and much-needed renovations to the Quest Diagnostics Giants Training Center.

It was a demand of Harbaugh’s during the negotiation process to land him as head coach.

Surely, that’s another area the Giants are expected to improve upon in their next report card.

That is, if the NFL can’t finally put a muzzle on the grades, like they’ve seemingly wanted to for the last few years.
