Liverpool injury update on Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

Arne Slot has provided a Liverpool team news update ahead of the Premier League clash against West Ham United.

A victory for the Reds at Anfield on Saturday will see them leapfrog Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification. But Slot will not underestimate a West Ham outfit fighting for their lives in 18th spot, having enjoyed an upturn in recent matches.

Florian Wirtz was forced to pull out of Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend. The attacking midfielder warmed-up at the City Ground but sustained a back issue.

Slot was not overly concerned about Wirtz’ issue after the victory - but admits that the Germany international will miss the West Ham game, which comes as a surprise. However, Jeremie Frimpong, who has missed the past five games, is set to make a return to the squad.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Slot said: "Jeremie trained with us a few times this week. So he's available. But I don't expect Florian to be available. It's a disappointment. Every time a player is not available is a disappointment, it's something that I didn't expect after last week."

Asked if he knows when Wirtz might be back, Slot replied: “No. At this time, no. Usually when I say that, I do know and don’t want to share it but now I honestly don’t know.

“He has rhythm, of course. In my opinion, it’s a big accomplishment [that] he stayed fit for so long because he had to make a step from where he played to Liverpool and the Premier League. It tells you a lot about the mentality of the player and the performance staff. But unfortunately, last week and this week is a disappointment for him and us because he played really, really well lately.”
