Ayyoub Bouaddi Transfer Twist As Arsenal Turn Towards Dutch Sensation As 'Standout Candidate' To Strengthen Midfield

Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Ajax’s Sean Steur ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates in recent months, but TEAMtalk claim that the Gunners now see Steur as a “standout candidate” to reinforce their midfield.

It is believed that Mikel Arteta’s side are among several Premier League clubs who have been sending scouts to watch the Dutchman in action over the past few weeks.

Observers have been present at more than one Ajax game to assess whether Steur should be on the list of summer transfer targets.

What do Arsenal fans need to know about the player?

Steur started his career in the academy of RKAV Volendam before joining Ajax at the age of 8 in the summer of 2016.

The midfielder made his way up the youth ranks of the Eredivisie club before being handed his senior debut for Ajax’s Under 21s in the Dutch second division. He came on as a substitute during a 4-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar’s Under 21s in May 2024.

Steur was given his first appearance for the first team last season, replacing Steven Berghuis for the final 10 minutes of a 4-0 win over Heracles. He has subsequently made 15 appearances, starting 12 matches in total.

Scouts from 2 other English teams are watching Steur

TEAMtalk report that Liverpool and Manchester United are just as keen on the teenager as the Gunners, having sent their own representatives to keep an eye on his progress.

Ajax are reluctant to let Steur go so soon after his first-team breakthrough. He is seen as one of the brightest prospects to come through their academy for a long time.

However, a lot may hinge on whether they can seal Champions League qualification. They are currently sitting 4th in the Eredivisie table – a top two finish is required to automatically qualify for the group stage.
