ESPN predicts Bills to sign future Hall of Fame WR to help Josh Allen

The Buffalo Bills clearly need help at wide receiver.

In basically every article written by any NFL writer this offseason, that's the key theme for the Bills, and so Mike Evans' name has come up again and again as a possibility.

ESPN's Aaron Schatz is the latest to bring up the Buccaneers star who is now a free agent. Evans is a future Hall of Famer and could certainly return to Tampa Bay.

But the article Schatz released on Friday links one free agent with each team. He thinks Evans could end up in Buffalo.

"Buffalo needs a No. 1 option for quarterback Josh Allen, and Evans is still a talented 'X' receiver," Schatz writes. "He has the size -- standing at 6-foot-5, 231 pounds -- and ball skills to win contested catches. Allen could also trust Evans on third down; in 2024, he had a team-high 220 yards on third down for the Bucs."

Evans is coming off an injury-plagued season, and it's not clear exactly how well he will age, but if he indeed chooses not to retire, that suggests he's got something left in the tank.

"There are doubts about Evans, however, since he will be turning 33 in August and missed 10 games in 2025 due to a broken collarbone and a hamstring injury," Schatz writes. "But he is only one year removed from a 1,000-yard season with 11 touchdowns."

Evans had 1,000 or more yards in every season of his NFL career before 2025. He was as consistent as they come.

Allen would love a consistent target, one who by virtue of his size is pretty much always open.

New head coach Joe Brady, who will continue to call offensive plays, could use a guy like Evans to dial up concepts for, as well.

It seems like a great match -- if Evans wants to leave the Buccaneers. That's the biggest if involved in this.
