Browns connected to Marvin Harrison Jr.
The Cleveland Browns have been linked to adding to their receiver room, and the team could look to make a blockbuster.
Cleveland has Jerry Jeudy as its No. 1 receiver, but the Browns are looking to make some major additions. Cleveland could look to address its need in the draft or free agency. But the Browns are also exploring the trade market.
As the NFL Draft Combine is underway, Browns NFL insider Jared Mueller believes Cleveland is looking to trade for Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals.
“I may have called WR Marvin Harrison ‘the Trent Richardson of receivers’ to a few film and scout guys I trust… and didn’t get much push back… He’s also a player Berry has at least touched base on acquiring to help Cleveland’s issues at the position,” Mueller wrote.
“Many wonder if he has the physical traits to be the dominant player he was at Ohio State, with almost zero certainty given his lack of predraft testing. There are a lot of questions about his film so far in the NFL. With the “is it the team or the player or both?” question lingering.”
Harrison struggled in his second season in the NFL, and his name has now come up in trade rumors. The Browns could send one of their two first-round picks as part of the package to land Harrison, who could use a change of scenery and be Cleveland’s bona fide No. 1 receiver.
Harrison recorded 41 receptions for 608 yards and 4 touchdowns last season.
Browns Linked to Chris Olave
Along with Harrison, the Browns are also rumored to be showing interest in Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints.
Olave, like Harrison, could be a change-of-scenery candidate. However, Olave is entering the final year of his deal, so a trade would have to come with an extension. But Olave would be a true No. 1 receiver for the Browns.
“While fans will talk about results a lot with Berry in Cleveland, the league thinks more about process despite all the “outcome-oriented” lingo thrown around,” Mueller wrote. “Berry is well respected for his process, including being very straightforward about his discussion, price points, and desires.
“He’s also considered persistent and resilient in that he’ll revisit trade ideas from the previous trade deadline just a few months later to see if they can happen again. WR Chris Olave is an example of that and is back on the Browns trade radar.”
Olave recorded 100 receptions for 1,163 yards and 9 touchdowns last season.
Cleveland Looking to Upgrade WR Room
The Browns’ receiver room could use an upgrade as the team is looking to make a move.
After hiring Todd Monken as their head coach, he said the receiver room is a work in progress. But, he hinted at the team making some moves to bolster the offense.
“Well, it’s kind of a work in progress,” Monken said at his introductory press conference. “It’s kind of hard right now because right now we’re spending the majority of our time on building an elite staff. I mean that’s really what we’re doing right now.
“There’ll be time for me to really get a chance to assess the receiver room. Most of it’s been from afar. Same with the offensive line, and how we’re going to construct the roster moving forward, especially offensively.”
The Browns are likely to be a team to watch this offseason as Cleveland looks to be aggressive.
