Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 02/27/26: Will Devin Bush Cash In?

CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans! I'm halfway through Coffee Two, and one glance at my tab bar as I start composing this Massive Morning Missive and it's clear that I have a lot of different things to talk about today. No one major thing, but a bunch of little things. That's right, it's going to be a THIS N' THAT day on the NewsWire.

You know what that means - you probably should go read something else. But if you have some sort of disorder where you find bouncing around topics to be kind of tolerable, then plow ahead.

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

BROWN INTERESTED IN RECEIVER? Our old friend Tony Pauline is in the news again, this time with the rumor that the Browns and TItans are interested in same receiver: New York Giant's 5'8" dynamo Wan'Dale Robinson.

Robinson, despite his size, managed to pile up over 1000 yards receiving last year, meaning that the free agent is likely to cash in - the market is not exactly chock-full of relatively young and effective receivers. The Giants won't let him go without a fight, so put this one in the "TBD" folder.

For more on what's going on with the Browns and the wide receiver position, check out Lane Adkins' brand new insider blog, Right to the Point.

BAD NEWS FROM THE LOCKER ROOM: The NFL failed to keep NFLPA Report Cards from leaking to the press. Again.

For a team that throws around money on facilities and real estate like there's no limit, the Cleveland Browns continue to struggle on NFLPA report cards, finishing 30th overall among teams in the league. At least the Steelers finished last and the Bengals were horrible like usual.

The Browns finished near the bottom in treatment of families, locker room, and team travel. With billions slated for a new dome, it seems like the Browns will resolve this in 2029, but in the meantime, it might make sense for the team to invest in changing these numbers, and becoming a more attractive place to play. (Yeah, I know, it's all about the number on the contract). But, still, you need every advantage you can get in the NFL.

DEVIN BUSH TO CASH IN? Browns linebacker Devin Bush resurrected his career in Cleveland, a rare case where the best possible thing happened for a Browns player revival project. I worried about his impending free agency repeatedly in this space, but it looks like the Browns will make a run at re-signing him. My only concern is how the Browns value linebackers, which is to say, "not highly". It was a surprise when the team invested a high second-round pick in Carson Schwesinger in 2025, and there are probably limits to what they'll spend on Bush. But it's somewhat reassuring that they have him on their radar.

TY SIMPSON IS HAVING A MOMENT, PART 2: Now we've got Dan Orlovsky saying that his value isn't significantly lower than that of Fernando Mendoza. I guess Simpson is slated to "rise on "draft boards" per the media as there's positive buzz about him. Beware the hype.

OH NO, THE MATRIX HAS US: If you have been reading this column regularly, you know that I'm fascinated with AI, and it's a constant topic. The folks over at Cleveland.com are one of the first outlets to (publicly) embrace AI, combining it with human writers to theoretically reduce the workload on their staff. The theory, at least, is that AI can spend more time doing the drudgery (more of this in The Lift below) and the human writers can spend more time "out in the field". They are claiming success already with better use of their people's time.

Good for them. I know I'm supposed to get all up on my high horse about deviating from tradition and removing the human element, but the winners and losers in nearly every conceivable market will be those who adapt to new technology and embrace change. It's been the same story since we first stood up on the plains of Africa: Adapt or die.

This is going to impact everything and pretending the media profession is somehow exempt is a bad bet. At the same time, the "human element" is missing. I suspect that things like humor and empathy can't be expressed by AI, only imitated.

To test how effective this is, I have trained my AI on bloviations by having it scan our Bloviation Access Portal on a regular basis to see if it could emulate the daily Newswire.

What I got was sort of what you would expect. Telling AI to "write me a bloviation in the manner of my OBR Daily Newswire" resulted in an abbreviated article that was filled to the brim with inaccuracies, unfunny jokes, outdated cultural references, and a general lack of professionalism and coherence. So, yeah, pretty spot on. Perhaps I am replaceable.

I'll be watching the results at Cleveland, com with interest, but I have entirely different ideas about how AI can be used to improve things here at the OBR. The Daily Bloviation will, for better or worse, continue to rely on a mushy and fallible human brain.

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

THE LIFT

Positive news from the world of sports and beyond...

Joanna Maciejewska on X

OK, The Lift sometimes isn't all about reality; it's sometimes about foolish hope. I think that this viral tweet sums up my hopes for the changes about to ripple through society because of technological advances. I need a robot lawnmower so I can spend more time writing my nonsensical Browns stuff. You know, "creating". I'm hoping for a better world ahead of us, but nervous like everyone else.
