Bears, Bills and 49ers could have interest in Giants' rumored trade candidate

The New York Giants could make one of their edge rushers available via trade in 2026 and the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers could have interest.

According to SNY's Connor Hughes, the Giants appear to be open to trading former No. 5 overall pick and edge rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

The belief in league circles, per Hughes, is Thibodeaux getting traded is inevitable.

"Kayvon Thibodeaux, per sources, is a player the Giants are listening to offers on and the belief from teams here at the combine is that he will eventually get dealt," Hughes reported.

Thibodeaux certainly hasn't lived up to the billing of a No. 5 overall pick. After a career-best season in 2023 that saw him post 11.5 sacks, Thibodeaux has battled injuries the past two seasons and has just eight sacks in 22 games in that span.

With Thibodeaux entering the final year of his contract, and with the Giants having Brian Burns and Abdul Carter under contract, it's very conceivable the Oregon product is going to be traded.

The Bears enter the offseason with a need opposite Montez Sweat. We'd like to see the Bears aim for a more proven player than Thibodeaux, but he would be worth a swing if Chicago fails to make a big splash.

Buffalo is likely to part ways with Joey Bosa this offseason after he disappeared in the second half of 2025, and A.J. Epenesa is a free agent. If even just one of them depart, Buffalo will need to make an addition across from Greg Rousseau.

The 49ers are another team with a major question mark at edge rusher after a season in which the team finished with the fewest sacks in the NFL.

Not only is Nick Bosa coming back from a torn ACL, but San Francisco doesn't have much juice opposite him. The Niners heed help along the edge and to get younger, and Thibs would check both of those boxes.
