Liverpool are “nearing an agreement” on personal terms with Yan Diomande’s agents, according to reports.
Football Fancast quotes a source close to negotiations who claims the Reds are willing to pay top dollar for a player they believe has massive potential:

“They’ve been working on this since before the January window, but there was never an option to make it happen in January.”
“They think this is the future best winger in the world and are willing to go near their transfer record again to make it happen this summer.”
Diomande will be a very expensive purchase
Several reports in the German media have already revealed RB Leipzig’s asking price for Diomande. The Bundesliga club are currently holding out for around €100m (£87m).
That wouldn’t break Liverpool’s transfer record, which currently stands at £125m, but it would still be a sizeable figure to pay for a 19-year-old who has fewer than 40 senior appearances to his name. Visit the official Liverpool shop here .
Leipzig may decide to lower their demands if they miss out on the Champions League, but a fee in excess of £60m may still be needed.
Liverpool are trying to head off the competition
If Football Fancast‘s reporting is accurate, then it appears that the Reds have been trying to sign Diomande for several months.
Those talks should give the Reds a head start over rival teams, such as Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who are also keen on recruiting the Ivorian international this summer. At the end of the day, though, a lot will hinge on which side is prepared to match Leipzig’s valuation.
