Both Man United and Liverpool have been linked to signing the same Premier League wonderkid in the summer.

If United want to avoid him leaving as a free agent next year, they have two options with Fernandes. Firstly, they could extend his contract at Old Trafford, and keep him around, although he is now 31 years-old.

Alternatively, they could opt to sell him in the summer and spend the money on a replacement. They have been linked to a Premier League wonderkid alongside rivals Liverpool.

Man United and Liverpool opt out of Mane deal

Wolves youngster Mateus Mane has been one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League this season. The 18-year-old has been a bright spark since Rob Edwards came in as manager at Molineux, and he is attracting interest from some big clubs heading into the summer.

The Midlands-based club insist that they don’t need to cash in on Mane this summer, and would rather keep hold of him. So, they have set a minimum price of £50m, which neither Man United or Liverpool are prepared to match, despite his incredible potential.

This season, Mane has made 17 Premier League appearances for Wolves, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Man United expected to offer Bruno a new contract

With one of the potential Fernandes replacements out of the question, the attention turns to what United will do with Fernandes, and whether they want to keep him at the club beyond next season.

The most recent reports on Fernandes’ contract have said that Man United would like to sign him to an extension. It is understood that United intend to enter into contract talks with the player after the World Cup, where he will spend his time fighting for success for the Portugal national team.

It is understood that Fernandes and United will make a decision on his future in the summer, which means that either he will sign an extension or the Red Devils will put him up for sale, which would shake up the summer market.

Last summer, Al-Hilal were in for Fernandes, as Man United were close to selling him for £100m, but the player wanted to stay at Old Trafford. It remains to be seen whether Fernandes would be willing to leave this summer instead.
