Potential 1st-Round WR Denzel Boston ‘Would Love’ To Join Steelers, Hopes For Pre-Draft Visit

Wide receiver is once again a big weakness for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they navigate the offseason. They traded for DK Metcalf last year, but the depth behind him remains lacking. While it’s still early in the process, the Steelers are showing a lot of interest in the top receivers in this year’s draft. That includes Washington’s Denzel Boston, who had a formal meeting with the Steelers at the NFL Combine and hopes to get to talk to them again.

“Talking with coach Mike McCarthy was a great talk,” Boston said Friday at the Combine via our Ryan Paglia. “Their meeting was more about just getting to know me and getting to understand me. I really appreciate that from them. That’s something that you don’t get a lot. It would be nice to go on a 30 visit with them.”

While Boston might not be on the same level as some of the other top receiver prospects, he feels like a realistic option for the Steelers in the first round, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they ultimately bring him in for a pre-draft visit.

Boston is 22 years old and will turn 23 during the season. He spent all four years of his collegiate career at Washington, and while he didn’t do much in his first two seasons, that was largely because he was buried on the depth chart. However, Boston ran with his opportunity once he got it.

He had a solid 2024 campaign, catching 63 passes for 834 yards and nine touchdowns. Boston followed that up with a similar 2025 season, catching 62 passes for 881 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Boston plenty of nice things to say about the Steelers on Friday, specifically praising Metcalf.

“I would love the Steelers to come pick me up. I’d love for any team to come pick me up. Playing with DK would be great,” he said. “Funny story, I actually predicted to my dad that the Seahawks were gonna draft DK back in his draft class. It would be a great time for me to go play with DK. I am a fan of his for sure. Big dominant receiver.”

While Boston and Metcalf are both big-bodied outside receivers, they could co-exist in the same offense. They don’t have the same skill set. Metcalf is a unique athlete who wins with his blend of size and speed. While he’s a big receiver, he has issues with contested catches.

Meanwhile, Boston is a more traditional big receiver. His speed might not be the best, but he’s shown great ability on contested catches. Having two receivers built like him and Metcalf wouldn’t be a bad thing.

We’ll see how Boston tests at the Combine, and whether or not he gets his wish to visit Pittsburgh. He would add some much-needed talent to the Steelers’ receiver room.
