Liverpool carried out significant business in the summer of 2025, but sporting director Richard Hughes still faces further reshaping of the squad, regardless of which competition they qualify for next season.
Head coach Arne Slot appears light in a few key areas, even before potential departures. The Reds could enter the market for a central midfielder, with uncertainty surrounding Curtis Jones’s long-term future, transfer interest in Alexis Mac Allister and inconsistent form from Ryan Gravenberch.
One surprise name to emerge is 20-year-old Lucas Bergvall of Tottenham Hotspur, who scored against Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup semi-final. Aston Villa and Chelsea also showed interest in January, while Bergvall remains under contract until 2031.
Despite signing Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak last summer, Liverpool are also being linked with Sporting CP striker Luis Suarez, according to Sports Boom. Valued at around €60m and tied down until 2030 at Sporting, Suarez is attracting strong interest from several top European sides, including Newcastle United.
Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, and William Osula are currently the three centre-forward options for Eddie Howe at Newcastle United. Woltemade has performed well for the Magpies, Wissa has struggled with injuries, and Osula remains a young talent at just 22.
Suarez’s clinical finishing and versatility have elevated him to the top of multiple shortlists. Liverpool view him as a potential rotation option in attack, though it remains unclear whether they will submit a formal bid.
Injuries and inconsistent form for Isak could prompt the Reds to consider Suarez as a viable alternative to strengthen their frontline.Ekitike has impressed this season with 15 goals and four assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, while injuries have limitedIsak to just 16 outings.
Luis Suarez joined Sporting from Almeria in the summer of 2025 and is under contract until 2030. He has been in outstanding form this season, recording 27 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for Sporting CP.
