Trade idea sees Browns trading Myles Garrett.
The Cleveland Browns could look to trade Myles Garrett this offseason to recoup some assets and help kick-start a true rebuild.
Garrett requested a trade last offseason, but the Browns ended up signing him to an extension. Yet, the team could now look to trade him this offseason to add some more draft capital.
Ahead of the new league year beginning, former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum shared a trade idea that sees the Browns trading Garrett to the Detroit Lions.
Browns acquire:
2026 first-round pick
2027 first-round pick
Jameson Williams
Lions acquire:
Myles Garrett
The proposed trade would be a blockbuster, but it is one that the Browns would likely want more for. The Dallas Cowboys got Kenny Clark and two first-round picks for Micah Parsons, but the Browns likely view Garrett as better than Parsons.
However, Cleveland would have three first-round picks in this year’s draft, which would allow the Browns to help overhaul their roster. Then, by adding another first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft,
Williams, meanwhile, would help bolster the Browns’ receiver room and give Cleveland a dynamic receiver to build around. He’s also under contract for four more seasons, so he can help be a key part of Cleveland’s turnaround.
It would be an intriguing trade, but whether or not the Browns actually want to trade Garrett is to be seen.
Insiders Believe Browns Could Trade Garrett
Following Tannebaum’s surprising trade package, Get Up co-hosts debated the deal.
Mike Greenberg believes it’s something the Browns should do, as trading Garrett makes sense for their future.

“I was of the opinion they should have traded him last year when he was demanding it,” Greenberg said. “I’m of the opinion they should trade him this year. They have such a long rebuild ahead that the best way to do it is to get the treasure (from a Garrett trade). Mike T had one of the most amazing offers I could ever imagine.”
Louis Riddick also agreed with Greenberg that the Browns should have traded Garrett last season. He also thought the proposed offer from the Lions was more than fair and something Cleveland should have jumped on.
Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns last offseason.
Garrett Requested Trade From Cleveland
Following Cleveland’s disappointing season in 2024, Garrett requested a trade from the Browns.
Garrett issued a statement sharing his trade request as he said he wanted to win.
“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever,” Garrett wrote. “My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”
Garrett recorded 60 tackles and 23 sacks last season as he set the single-season NFL sack record.
