Emmitt Smith headlines Lubbock Women’s Club spring speaker series

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith headlined the Lubbock Women’s Club spring speaker series Thursday night, drawing on his career and life experience to speak about breaking through personal limits.

Smith won three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys during the 1990s across 13 seasons, ending in 2002. He spent two additional seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before retiring.

Smith on drawing from past experience

“When we get into a situation oftentimes, we don’t think about what we’ve overcome already,” Smith said. “We forget those things. We think they don’t apply. In my experience, everything that you’ve done in life applies at some point. It’s a matter of when you need it.”

“You don’t shoot all the arrows at one time, you shoot one at a time, and you never know which one you may need at the time that could change your life or keeps you moving forward,” he said.

The Lubbock Women’s Club has previously featured speakers including Texas Tech Lady Raiders head coach Krista Gerlich, former “Today” show anchor Hoda Kotb, and pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.
