“Who’s More Important? …And You’re Getting Paid $2M”: Washington RB Drops “$100M” Truth Bomb at …

The NFL Combine is where prospects sell themselves through workouts and interviews. There is no denying that most play it safe. Washington Huskies running back Jonah Coleman didn’t bother with the diplomatic route.

Standing in front of reporters in Indianapolis, the 2026 draft prospect broke down the RB-QB relationship with the kind of cold clarity that most veterans won’t say out loud until year six. He bluntly put the math on the table.

Washington RB Jonah Coleman’s ice-cold take on QB and RB priorities

Coleman’s road to Indianapolis was anything but a straight line. As a sophomore, he carried the ball 128 times for 871 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 6.8 yards per attempt. That season with the Arizona Wildcats put him on the radar of major programs.

He transferred to Washington before the 2024 season under coach Jedd Fisch and became the team’s lead back. In 2024, he rushed for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns on 193 carries. In 2025, he ran for 758 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns, and added 31 catches for 354 yards and two more receiving TDs.

While scouts have flagged his top-end speed as a concern, Coleman’s game thrives on vision, contact balance, and finishing runs. Notably, 74.3 percent of his 3,054 career rushing yards came after contact. He also proved reliable as a receiver, with no drops on 34 targets in 2025, and held up in pass protection.

That last part is exactly what he addressed at the podium. When asked about pass protection’s role for running backs at the NFL level, the former three-star recruit didn’t sugarcoat his ice-cold take.

Hesaid, “You not gonna play if you can’t pass pro. It’s simple. I’m paying $100M [to a QB], you’re getting paid $2M. Who’s more important?”

NFL coordinators follow the same hierarchy Coleman described. In a league where quarterbacks drive the offense and the payroll, a running back stays on the field by protecting them. Scouts highlight his willingness to step into blitz lanes, using his low center of gravity to stop rushers cold.

Fans react to his cold-blooded take

Coleman’s combine presser clip has since turned viral online, and the replies did not disappoint.

One fanwrote, “A million straight suburban dads just got aroused at once.”

Another vieweradded, “QB makes the money, RB keeps him upright.”

A thirdpenned, “No block, no rock!”

The fourth viewerexplained, “The most underrated stat for an RB is ‘Sacks Allowed.’ Coleman just gave a masterclass in situational awareness. If you’re the $2M bodyguard for a $100M arm, your job description starts and ends with ‘Keep him clean.’ Simple as that.”

Coleman spoke plainly about the position’s demands and what the pay gap already implies. For a running back in a deep draft class, standing out in a press conference can be just as important as a fast 40-yard dash. Coleman managed to do both.

By being the most honest voice in the room and then running a solid time in the high 4.5s, he solidified his spot as one of the most reliable prospects in the draft.
