Carson Beck will reportedly throw during quarterback drills at the NFL scouting combine

Carson Beck has reportedly decided to participate in throwing drills at this weekend's NFL Scouting Combine.

The 23-year-old Beck is among 319 prospects receiving invitations to this week's annual showcase, where he'll look to boost his draft positioning before April's selection process, having already delivered a standout 2025 season following his transfer from Georgia to Miami.

After spending five years with the Bulldogs, including two seasons as the starting quarterback in 2023 and 2024, Beck opted to join the Hurricanes for his final year of college eligibility, and the move paid dividends as Mario Cristobal's squad advanced to the CFP National Championship Game. Meanwhile, Beck's declaration might spell trouble for Shedeur Sanders.

The skilled signal-caller guided Miami to a 13-3 record over his 16 starts, helping eliminate three higher-seeded teams en route to the CFP final, and concluded the season with 3,813 passing yards, a personal-best 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

Regrettably for Beck, his interception during the national championship matchup against Indiana proved decisive in his team's defeat. However, he has since shifted his focus toward his pro career, working to chart his course to the NFL.

The initial step of that journey kicks off at this week's NFL Combine, as he attempts to market himself to multiple franchises interested in acquiring his talents, but reports now indicate that Beck is prepared to take things further by taking part in Saturday's quarterback workouts. "Miami QB Carson Beck plans to throw at the Combine during QB drills on Saturday, per sources," NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted to X on Friday.

The decision marks the latest development in Beck's turbulent NFL Draft trajectory, and it's being viewed as an encouraging sign — particularly with several quarterbacks, most notably Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, sitting out the throwing sessions this weekend.

Beck transferred to Miami for his last college football season

Beck appeared destined for a guaranteed first-round selection following the 2023 season after steering Georgia to a 13-1 (8-0 SEC) record whilst posting a career-best 3,941 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions, yet he chose to return to college football for one more campaign.

Then, despite piloting Georgia to another strong 11–3 (6–2 SEC) finish and an SEC Championship, Beck's 2024 showings failed to match his previous standards.

His interceptions doubled, his passing yards dropped by nearly 500, and his season came to a devastating halt with a career-threatening UCL tear in his throwing arm during the SEC Championship Game.

Even though the young quarterback's draft stock took a significant hit, he still chose to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

But just 12 days after announcing his intentions, Beck reversed course and entered the transfer portal instead, ultimately setting the stage for his transition to Miami.

After undergoing surgery on his right elbow, it was logical for him to stay in college football for another season to return to peak form, particularly since he was unable to throw during Miami's spring practice and wasn't given medical clearance for complete participation until mere weeks before the 2025 season kicked off.

Although a national championship eluded him, Beck still concluded his final year at Miami on a high note, securing third-team All-ACC honors, and will now be hoping that by week's end he has demonstrated enough for an NFL franchise to select him in April's draft.
