Tottenham retain interest in winger on whom they’ve already made several offers, but Man City…

Tottenham will look to replace Brennan Johnson in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur made some exciting attacking additions to their squad last summer. They brought in the likes of Mathys Tel, Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus and Randal Kolo Muani to bolster the offensive department in the injury absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, the North Londoners also endured embarrassment in the same transfer window as they missed out on some high-profile targets. One of the players was Manchester City winger Savinho. Tottenham had made several offers for Savinho last summer, but were unable to convince Manchester City to part ways with him, despite the player’s own willingness to swap teams.

Spurs also explored the Brazilian’s signing in the past winter transfer window after missing out on Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City. But the Sky Blues’ stance did not change. They had no desire to lose Savinho midway through the season, as Pep Guardiola wanted to keep the squad depth intact.

Savinho has endured an injury-ravaged season with Man City, starting just five Premier League games. He has missed over a month with a thigh injury, and once the winger recovers from it, he will face a big task to break into Guardiola’s side.

Tottenham retain an interest in Savinho

Now, even after missing out on his services in back-to-back transfer windows, Tottenham have seemingly not given up on the player.

According to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside, Spurs are still interested in Savinho, even though there haven’t been any fresh contacts or approaches made. Man City’s stance remains clear and firm: Savinho is seen as “untouchable.” Hugo Viana, City’s sporting director, has huge expectations from the 21-year-old and is “convinced” of the player’s potential, while Guardiola sees him as a long-term replacement for Bernardo Silva.

In addition to Tottenham, Juventus, and La Liga’s top clubs are also closely monitoring Savinho’s situation at the Etihad Stadium. He signed a long-term contract with City last October, extending his stay until June 2031, which fortifies the club’s negotiating power. Moreover, the creative attacker is himself highly satisfied with his time at City and is solely focused on getting back to full fitness and earning a spot in the Brazil squad for the World Cup later this year.

It remains to be seen how Savinho performs after returning from injury, and whether he gets ample opportunities from now on until the end of the season, but the time has come for Spurs to turn their attention to alternative options in the market if they are serious about signing a new winger to replace Brennan Johnson in the summer.

To convince City to sell Savinho, the Lilywhites would need to start bidding from £75–80 million, and that itself does not look practical. That said, if Spurs retain their top-flight status, which the players must under Igor Tudor by hook or crook, we must look to revive interest in AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche.
