Steal of the Draft? The 1 sleeper QB the Browns must target after the NFL Combine

Could the Browns’ biggest draft steal be right in their own backyard?

The highly decorated star from Medina, a 38-minute drive south from Cleveland, is as quintessential a Browns fan as you’ll find. “I would probably say either Joe Thomas or Charlie Frye were one of the first two jerseys I had,” Drew Allar said at the NFL Combine on Friday.

A year ago, Allar was expected to be one of the top prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, a step back in performance and a brutal season-ending ankle surgery quickly turned the Penn State standout into an afterthought. Now looking like a fourth or fifth-round pick, his stock has plummeted—but his ceiling remains massive.

You simply can't teach his elite traits. At 6’5”, 235-lbs, he boasts prototypical size and what Allar himself declared the “biggest arm” in this QB class.

Taking him on Day 3 is the perfect low-risk, high-reward play. Allar wouldn't have to be the savior right away. Instead, he could "redshirt" behind Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson, in Watson's last year, developing his raw skills to become a future star. Devote the 2026 campaign to see the upside of Sanders, while keeping the young gunslinger in the shadows.

The interest is definitely real. As Browns radio commentator Nathan Zegura noted on 92.3 The Fan, "I would not at all be surprised if they add someone else to the (QB) room. It was reported the Browns were very into Drew Allar last year." If true, then GM Andrew Berry can grab his man at a steep discount, and have him learn under Todd Monken in a low pressure situation.
