Strasbourg manager Gary O’Neil has admitted that Aaron Anselmino’s progress has been stalled by a familiar injury concern, which will cause some concern for Chelsea.
Aaron Anselmino was messed about by Chelsea during the summer transfer window, being recalled from Borussia Dortmund, which even left the defender in tears.
The defender ended up moving to Chelsea‘s sister club Strasbourg due to Mamadou Sarr’s return to Stamford Bridge, but it hasn’t gone to plan for the youngster.
It hasn’t been a smooth ride for Anselmino at Strasbourg, featuring in just two matches to date.
And things have just gotten even worse for the defender after an update from Gary O’Neil.

Aaron Anselmino suffers from recurring injury at Strasbourg
Gary O’Neil has made a fantastic start at Strasbourg, but it’s been largely done without Anselmino.
Speaking in a press conference at the French club, O’Neil gave an insight into the issues that the defender has been suffering with of late.
“Aaron has an ‘awareness’ in the same hamstring that caused him problems during his loan at Borussia Dortmund.”
It’s a real shame for Anselmino, who was looking extremely dominant in his time at Dortmund.

Aaron Anselmino comparison to Mamadou Sarr
Mamadou Sarr and Aaron Anselmino represent two different trajectories within the BlueCo model. Sarr established himself as a regular for Strasbourg, making 18 appearances in the first half of the season and starring in Senegal’s AFCON triumph before being recalled to Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea squad.
Aaron Anselmino’s five-month loan at Borussia Dortmund was defined by flashes of potential that quickly made him a fan favorite. Despite recurring muscle injuries, the 20-year-old impressed whenever fit, recording 10 appearances and a memorable match-winning header against Bayer Leverkusen.
Statistically, he was formidable in the Bundesliga, winning 100% of his tackles (9/9) and maintaining an 82% passing accuracy.
