The increase reflects the improvement that Liverpool have made defensively in recent weeks.

The Reds have become uncharacteristically used to conceding goals during the 2025/26 season, as Arne Slot has overseen a hugely disruptive title defence.

Amid immense change over the summer, Liverpool have failed to show the dominance that we became so accustomed to see during Arne Slot’s debut season in charge.

Despite this, the team appear to have turned a corner recently, keeping three consecutive clean sheets for the first time this season.

Up next for the Reds is a home fixture against West Ham where they will look to build on that run.

A key part of this defensive turnaround has been Virgil van Dijk returning to his usual self.

The Liverpool skipper has looked strong and reassured at the back, helping his side mount a real attempt to finish in the top four this season.

As a result of this upturn in form, for the first time this season Virgil van Dijk has become the most transferred in player in FPL for a Gameweek.

FPL (Fantasy Premier League) is the world’s biggest free-to-play football management game, with over 11 million players.

The concept consists of being given a £100million budget to pick a 15-player squad from active Premier League players, aiming to score the highest points based on actual match performance.

Virgil van Dijk has accumulated 28 points across the last two game weeks against Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.

Against Sunderland, the Liverpool captain secured 17 points. 6 for scoring a goal, 4 for a clean sheet, 3 total bonus points and 2 for making 13 defensive contributions in the match.

Against Nottingham Forest, the Dutchman recorded 11 points. 3 for notching an assist, 4 for a clean sheet and 2 total bonus points.

The defender now has the most points of any Liverpool player in FPL so far this season and will looking to build on that tally with a solid performance against the Hammers.
