“Aaron has” – Gary O’Neil shares worrying update on Chelsea loanee Anselmino

Strasbourg boss Gary O’Neil has revealed Aaron Anselmino is suffering with an issue in the same hamstring that caused him problems at Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues signed Anselmino from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2024, and he made his debut at the Club World Cup.

The decision was then taken to send him on loan to Borussia Dortmund, where he put in some impressive performances.

Anselmino had issues with his hamstring in Germany, which limited him to just just ten appearances over the first half of the campaign.

Dortmund had expressed interest in signing him on a permanent basis, something Chelsea reportedly weren’t happy about.

Anselmino was in tears after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

However, Chelsea did mess Anselmino around in January as they recalled him and sent him to Strasbourg to be the replacement for Mamadou Sarr.

Things haven’t really gone to plan for Anselmino in France, and he’s made just two appearances, with O’Neil providing a concerning but familiar update.

“Aaron has an ‘awareness’ in the same hamstring that caused him problems during his loan at Borussia Dortmund,” he told reporters as quoted on X.com.

Chelsea in the market for a centre back this summer

Despite recalling Sarr, the Blues are believed to be in the market for a centre back this summer, having missed out on Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool.

The Blues have been linked with Nottingham Forest star Murillo, but it remains to be seen if they will make a move for the Brazilian.
