After a late-season collapse and playoff exit at the hands of the arch-rival Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers have some work to do heading into the NFL offseason in order to get the iconic franchise back on track as one of the best teams in the NFC.

The Packers’ brass got back to work this week, as the NFL scouting combine got underway in Indianapolis, with general manager Brian Gutekunst taking questions from the media about the team’s plans.

One important question for the Packers’ brass heading into the offseason is what the future holds for star wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who’s in line for a new contract with Green Bay.

Doubs is coming off one of the best seasons of his NFL career with the Packers and will likely be a hot commodity on the open market. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst spoke to the media during the scouting combine this week and gave some insight on the future of Doubs in Green Bay, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

“We haven’t lost anybody yet, right?” Gutekunst said at the scouting combine this week. “We’re still kind of going through that process. Romeo’s done a fantastic job for us over his four years with the Green Bay Packers — very consistent, his work ethic is second to none.

“Again, we’d love to have him back. And if we do, he’ll be a big part of our football team. And if we don’t, I’m sure he’ll be very successful wherever he goes.”

Although Gutekunst seems to appreciate what Doubs has done for the Packers over the last four years since being selected by the storied franchise in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Green Bay doesn’t seem to be making a priority to re-sign the young wide receiver, so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that he’s playing elsewhere next season.

During the 2025 NFL season, Doubs hauled in 55 receptions for a career-high 724 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

The bitter rivalry between the Bears and Packers reached a new level during the 2025 campaign after Chicago hired head coach Ben Johnson. The former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator made it clear he doesn’t like the Packers and recently shed light on his feelings toward the team’s head coach, Matt LaFleur.

“I mean, the Bears and the Packers, they should not like each other,” Johnson said of the bitter division rivalry. “I think it’s as simple as that. And I think that’s going to make this rivalry, this game, something that people are going to watch here going forward.”

Johnson clearly enjoys the bitterness between the two legendary NFL franchises and has no intention of being friends with LaFleur moving forward.

“No, we don’t talk,” Johnson said of LaFleur. “I’m good with it.”

It’ll be interesting to see where this rivalry goes from here and how heated these games between the Bears and Packers get.
