Milwaukee Bucks: Cole Anthony’s Suns stint ends after 3 weeks and 0 games played

The Milwaukee Bucks traded point guard Cole Anthony, along with Amir Coffey, at the 2026 deadline in the move that brought them Ousmane Dieng. Obviously, that decision has panned out wonderfully for the Bucks as Dieng has flashed potential as a piece of the future, replacing two veterans who weren’t involved in the rotation.

The change of scenery has also worked out decently for Coffey, who has seen a regular role in Phoenix, due in part to Dillon Brooks’ injury absence, that had long since passed him by in Milwaukee. Anthony, on the other hand, never got off the ground.

Yesterday, the Suns waived the sixth-year guard after 22 days on the roster, yet to play his first game in Phoenix. In fact, he hadn’t even dressed to play since the trade.

Anthony waived by Suns without being listed active for a single game

It’s going to stay that way. Anthony lasted suited up for the Bucks on February 3 against Chicago, when he provided four points and five assists in 12 minutes. He had seen a bit more burn of late, after a month-and-a-half-long stretch where he barely played, dating to late November until mid-January.

Overall, though, it was a disappointing season for a guy the Bucks hoped would provide much needed spark off the bench as a scorer and shot creator. Anthony appeared in 35 games, averaging 6.7 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds on 42.4/30.6/61.7 splits. His production fell off markedly after an exciting debut. The shooting efficiency tanked. The turnovers spiked. It was a hard watch.

The Bucks sent him on his way for a flyer on Dieng, discarded by the Thunder and re-routed by the Bulls. Dieng has been quieter of late but has already notched four games in double figures, including 19 points, 11 rebounds, six dimes, and four blocks in a win over Oklahoma City in Milwaukee’s last game before the All-Star break.

For Phoenix, Coffey has appeared in six games averaging 18 minutes and 5.8 points on 48/36/83 shooting splits.
