Liverpool may have to wait a little longer for Florian Wirtz to return to action.
Arne Slot has moved to cool expectations ahead of the upcoming clash with Wolves.
Speaking to the media after Liverpool beat West Ham United 5-2 at Anfield, the Liverpool head coach was asked directly whether Wirtz could feature in the next fixture.
Slot gave a cautious response.
He said: “Probably that will be too early.”
The update suggests the German playmaker is still recovering from the minor back issue that caused concern before the recent West Ham match.
Wirtz experienced discomfort during the warm-up and was withdrawn as a precaution.
At the time, Slot described it as only a “pinch” and not a serious injury.
However, this latest comment indicates the Wolves game may arrive too soon in his recovery timeline.
Wirtz has become a central figure in Liverpool’s attacking structure this season.
After a slow adaptation period following his £116 million summer move, he has grown into the creative engine of the side.
Since December, his influence has been clear. He leads the squad in chances created and has built a strong understanding with Mohamed Salah in advanced areas.
Liverpool are currently pushing to improve their league position after an inconsistent run of results.
Sitting outside the top four, every match carries weight.
The absence of a key creative presence could affect the rhythm of Slot’s 4-2-3-1 system, which relies heavily on fluid movement between midfield and attack.
Still, Slot’s careful handling reflects a long-term view.
Liverpool will not want to risk aggravating an issue at this stage of the campaign.
If Wirtz is not ready for Wolves, the focus will shift to ensuring he returns fully fit rather than rushing him back.
For now, the message from the manager is clear. Patience may be required.
