Anderson’s release will save the Steelers $2 million but leave a $415,000 dead money charge on the team’s cap sheet. He had a $500,000 roster bonus that was due on March 13.

Anderson began the year as the Steelers’ swing tackle, and he saw game action in Week 12 against the Chicago Bears after Broderick Jones suffered a neck injury. But Andrus Peat earned the start at tackle in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills, and Anderson suffered an injury in practice the following week that wound up being season-ending. All told, his Steelers career will end after appearing in 13 games with 34 offensive snaps.

His only offensive snaps this season came at left tackle against Chicago. In 2024, Anderson saw action at left tackle against the Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and in the Wild Card Round playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He also played one snap at right tackle against the Washington Commanders.

A six-year veteran, Anderson began his career with the Denver Broncos, spending the first three seasons of his career with them. He spent 2023 with the New England Patriots and was released by the team in 2024, signing with the Steelers on September 24. He never started a game with the team but provided depth off the bench.

With the addition of Peat last season, Anderson’s swing tackle role was diminished and the emergence of Dylan Cook late in the season while Anderson was on IR made him expendable. The Steelers still have Broderick Jones under contract for 2026, as well as Cook. The two could battle for the starting left tackle job but whoever loses that job would be the top backup tackle.
