Amon-Ra St. Brown maintained his status as one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers during a productive but team-disappointing 2024 season. He recorded 117 receptions for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns on 172 targets across 17 games.
The Lions missed the playoffs. Despite high expectations following a 15-win 2024 season, they finished 9–8 and were eliminated in Week 17. ButSt. Brown’s position was sportless. His PFF receiving grade of 90.6 ranked third among all qualifying NFL wide receivers in 2025, confirming his elite consistency.
However, the wide receiver became that player long before he reached Detroit, and his father, John Brown, has a clear view of how it happened.

John Brown didn’t mince words when his son first brought a girl into the picture. When he first met Brooklyn Adams, who was 16 at the time, his immediate reaction to his son was blunt.

Papa Brownsaid, “My son doesn’t have a girlfriend, and all girls are dream killers.”
Appearing on The Pivot podcast, he elaborated on the philosophy. His point, as ESPN’s Ryan Clark noted in sharing the clip, was never gender-specific because he said the same thing about boys.
The irony? John’s “dream killer” warning didn’t end his son’s relationship with Adams. They met as a sophomore at Servite High School in Anaheim, California. They were indeed paired together for an English class assignment, which served as the foundation of their decade-long relationship.
Adams managed a long-distance relationship while attending nursing school in California, while St. Brown was in Detroit. She graduated and became a Registered Nurse in August 2024.

And it is safe tos sya that she melted Papa Brown’s heart from the jump. John later recanted this view specifically regarding Adams, stating, “I found out she was a really special girl” after seeing her unwavering support for Amon-Ra’s career.
While other young receivers dealt with off-field issues, St. Brown produced back-to-back seasons with 115 catches. He joined Davante Adams and Antonio Brown as the only players in NFL history to record at least 115 receptions and 10 touchdowns in consecutive years, though the Lions’ overall team performance was not as solid as his individual one.
