Could the Cowboys end up signing Devin Lloyd?
It was undoubtedly a very disappointing 2025 season for the Dallas Cowboys. While they entered the season with the hope of turning things around, they once again struggled during the 2025 campaign. They finished the season with an underwhelming 7-9-1 record and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
With how poorly this past season went for the Cowboys, there is an expectation that they will be having a busy offseason. It is absolutely apparent that they need to upgrade multiple spots on their roster if they hope to be a more legitimate threat in 2026.
One clear area that the Cowboys should be looking to improve is their defense. They had too many issues this past season in that department, and they should be looking to address that in free agency this offseason.
Bringing in a high-impact linebacker should be one of the Cowboys’ biggest priorities this offseason. They are in a position to make a splash at that position, and they are now being linked to one of the top free agents of this year because of it.
Cowboys Predicted to Sign Star Linebacker Devin Lloyd
In a recent article for ESPN, Aaron Schatz looked at one free agent that each NFL team should look to sign in free agency. When it came to the Cowboys, Schatz predicted that they would make a big move in free agency and sign star linebacker Devin Lloyd.
“The Cowboys had one of the worst defenses in NFL history in 2025, according to my DVOA metric, and they are in desperate need of playmakers. So why not bring in Lloyd? He is a solid starting linebacker who had five interceptions and 1.5 sacks last season,” Schatz wrote.
When looking at the Cowboys’ current roster, there is no question that they could use a linebacker like Lloyd. He would, without a doubt, give the Cowboys a major boost at the linebacker position and would certainly improve their defense in the process. Thus, it would make all the sense in the world for the Cowboys to make a major push for him.
Lloyd is also coming off a strong 2025 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 15 games during this past season with the Jaguars, the 6-foot-3 linebacker recorded a career-high five interceptions. This included him recording his first-career interception touchdown, which was 99 yards and the longest pick-six in Jaguars history. He also posted 1.5 sacks, 81 tackles, and 135 yards. With this, he was named a second-team All-Pro and made his first-career Pro Bowl.
Devin Lloyd Will Have Several Suitors
With Lloyd coming off a big season with the Jaguars and being one of the top linebacker free agents, there is no question that he will generate a lot of interest this offseason. Due to this, the Cowboys are going to have plenty of competition for his services if they try to sign him.
Yet, with the Cowboys needing an upgrade at the linebacker position, Lloyd is undoubtedly a player that they should try to sign. It will be interesting to see if they end up being the lucky team that lands him from here.
