Jerry Jones Eyes Record-Setting Deal for Cowboys' 3-Time Pro Bowler

The Dallas Cowboys have already been busy this offseason.

After weeks of speculation, the team locked up running back Javonte Williams to a three-year, $24 million deal following his breakout 2025 campaign, then franchise-tagged wide receiver George Pickens after his All-Pro season.

Dallas also released linebacker Logan Wilson, whom it acquired at the 2025 trade deadline, and placed a second-round tender on guard T.J. Bass, all while signaling it plans to invest heavily in fixing defensive holes.

But at the NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team wants to "make him the highest paid player," referring to kicker Brandon Aubrey, and added that "we've got a good offer on the table for him."

Aubrey, a former college soccer standout at the University of Notre Dame, began his professional career on the pitch, playing in MLS and the USL before pivoting to football and using the United States Football League as his proving ground with the Birmingham Stallions.

There, he won back-to-back USFL championships in 2022 and 2023, showcasing the kind of leg strength and consistency that quickly put NFL scouts on notice, with Dallas signing him in July 2023.

In three NFL seasons, Aubrey has made 112 field goals and 126 extra points for 462 total points, building an elite long-range profile that includes six field goals from 60-plus yards, the most in league history.

His 2023 rookie campaign was historic on its own. He set the NFL record for most consecutive field goals to begin a career (36), most 50-plus yard field goals without a miss in a single season (10), and the highest field goal percentage by a rookie (94.7%).

He followed that by setting the single-season record for 50-plus yard makes (14) in 2024 and then established another benchmark in 2025 with three field goals of 60 yards or longer, the most ever in a single season.

Aubrey is a pending restricted free agent after a rapid rise from alternative spring leagues to All-Pro status, and the Cowboys' apparent willingness to commit market-clearing money to a kicker could reshape how teams and agents price the position.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker reset the market in August 2024 with a four-year, $25.6 million extension that made him the highest-paid kicker in the league.

Jones’ latest comments suggest that Dallas has offered an amount that would top that.
