Dort notoriously tripped Jokic, prompting the Nuggets superstar to erupt last Friday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is simply standing up for Luguentz Dort in the wake of his teammate's controversial foul against Nikola Jokic on Friday evening.
Denver Nuggets / Schedule
Following the Oklahoma City Thunder's 127-121 overtime win over the Denver Nuggets, the league MVP defended Dort against criticisms for the unsportsmanlike act he pulled over Jokic.
"It’s how it usually goes. Something happens, one team roars, the other team roars," he told reporters after a brilliant 36-point play in his return from a nine-game injury absence.
"I don’t know. Lu got thrown out. Lu’s not that type of guy. He’s trying to go out there and win. I didn’t see what happened, but it’s all good."
With 8:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, it was observed that Dort tripped Jokic near midcourt by sticking out his right foot and hip-checking him as the three-time MVP ran up the floor.
After hitting the floor, an animated Jokić immediately confronted Dort. This sparked a heated scrum involving Oklahoma City's Jaylin Williams, who exchanged shoves with the Serbian star.
Following the review by officials, Dort was assessed with a Flagrant 2 for the unnecessary contact with Jokic. It prompted the untimely exit of the OKC forward.
It remains to be seen whether the league office will impose a punishment against Dort for the risky move he took on Jokic that could have injured the Nuggets superstar.
