Liverpool injury update on Wataru Endo and Florian Wirtz.

Wataru Endo may not play for Liverpool again this season, it has been suggested.

The midfielder suffered an ankle injury in the Reds’ 1-0 victory at Sunderland last month. Deputising at right-back, Endo fell awkwardly when making a clearance at the back post and was stretchered off the Stadium of Light pitch.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted Endo was set for a prolonged period on the sidelines but there was hope he would be back before the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Yet Endo has undergone surgery in a bid to be fit for Japan in this summer’s World Cup. Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu said: “I’ve heard that he had surgery.

“I’ve heard that it went well, but I don’t know the details of how it went. The plan is for him to be ready in time for the World Cup, so the rehabilitation process from surgery onwards is being considered.”

Should Endo not be available again this season, it will mean that Liverpool will be without three players for the remainder of the campaign. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni (both knee) are sidelined until pre-season.

Meanwhile, Slot confirmed after Liverpool’s 5-2 victory over West Ham that Florian Wirtz will remained sidelined for Tuesday’s trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wirtz has been struggling with a back injury.

Slot said: “I think that will be too early, but I said last week I didn’t expect him not to be available for today, so sometimes with an injury things can develop in a positive way or in a negative way. Now we are thinking it doesn’t have to take too long, but Tuesday will probably be too early. The week after will be tight as things stand now, but as I said, I thought that he would be available for today as well, which didn’t happen unfortunately.”
