Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Lifts Lid on“Weird” Chelsea Stint

Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has finally spoken out about his disappointing time at Chelsea. He called the experience “weird” and said that not playing in the Premier League on weekends made him very unhappy while he was at Stamford Bridge.

In the summer of 2024, Chelsea paid £30 million for the playmaker from Leicester City. He had previously worked with manager Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, where they won the Championship together. However, he only started two Premier League games with the Blues, as most of his minutes came from Chelsea’s successful UEFA Europa Conference League run and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In an honest interview, the midfielder said he was frustrated by the difference between his midweek and weekend performances. He said:

“It was weird – it almost felt like no matter how well I played in midweek, I would not play at the weekend and that was the only thing that didn’t sit well with me.”

Dewsbury-Hall also made it clear that he came to Stamford Bridge fully believing in his own abilities. He said:

“I had a lot of options but signed for Chelsea genuinely thinking I was gonna play. I believed I could. I know I could. And then football is football. Things happen. Obviously the competition was high.”

At Chelsea, it was hard to get a spot in the midfield because players like Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo were ahead of him in Maresca’s Premier League pecking order. Even though he didn’t play in many league games, Dewsbury-Hall still left Stamford Bridge as a European and world champion.

How Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Is Doing At Everton

Dewsbury-Hall moved to Everton for good in August 2025 after only one season in west London. The deal was said to be worth about £29 million. The move has worked out well for both sides, as the midfielder has quickly become one of David Moyes’ most important players at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Dewsbury-Hall has scored five goals and assisted on two more in 20 Premier League games in the 2025–26 season, making him Everton’s joint-top scorer. His recent play has been especially impressive. He scored the game-winning goal in Everton’s historic win at Old Trafford, their first win at the Theatre of Dreams since 2013, and he also played a big role in their 3-0 home win over Nottingham Forest.
