On this day, the football world mourned the loss of one of its greatest legends, Dixie Dean. Dean passed away at Goodison Park, the spiritual home of Everton, while attending a match between Everton and Liverpool. Known for his remarkable goal-scoring prowess, Dean remains the most prolific scorer in Everton’s history, having netted 383 goals in 433 appearances. His record includes an astonishing 37 hat-tricks. The 1927/28 season saw Dean achieve an all-time League record by scoring 60 goals. Despite his limited international career, he made a significant impact by scoring 18 goals in just 16 appearances for England.

1st March 2014

The Premier League match between Hull City and Newcastle United at the KC Stadium became infamous due to an altercation on the touchline. Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was involved in a controversial incident when he headbutted Hull midfielder David Meyler. This altercation led to significant repercussions for Pardew, who was fined £100,000 by Newcastle United. Additionally, the Football Association imposed a further fine of £60,000 and handed Pardew a seven-match ban.
