Warriors lose key rotation player to ankle injury

Warriors guard Will Richard was forced to exit early with a right ankle sprain during Saturday night's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He played just five minutes before leaving the game, raising concerns for Golden State moving forward.

Golden State Warriors guard Will Richard suffered a right ankle injury during Saturday night's home game against the Los Angeles Lakers and was unable to return.

Richard appeared in the game for just five minutes before exiting. In limited action, he scored four points, grabbed one rebound, and recorded one block while shooting 2/3 from the field. His night ended early after he appeared to tweak his ankle.

The Warriors later confirmed his status through an official update. Warriors PR wrote: "Will Richard (right ankle sprain) will not return to tonight's game."

Entering the game, Richard was averaging 7.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range over 53 appearances.

The Warriors went on to lose the game 129-101, playing without Steph Curry and Kristaps Porzingis. With the defeat, Golden State dropped to 31-29 on the season and currently sits eighth in the Western Conference.
